Carl Scholz is a chartered accountant, partner with Catalyst
LLP and the leader of the Taxation Advisory services
practice. Carl practices tax with a focus on the taxation of
private corporations and their shareholders, specifically
advising in the areas of mergers, acquisitions and
corporation reorganizations. He also advises on effective
private corporation remuneration/compensation strategies,
employee retention mechanisms, and the use of partnerships
and trusts as alternative business vehicles. Carl has
significant experience in the area of estate planning and
planning to transition the ownership of a business to the next
generation or existing key employees.

Carl approaches tax planning with deep technical
knowledge, but keeping in mind the client objectives to
be attained, the need for client’s to understand the concepts
presented, cost versus benefit, and the need for simplicity.
He attempts to achieve tax benefits for his clients while at the
same time managing risk and uncertainty.

Prior to joining Catalyst, Carl practiced with several large
multi-national accounting firms that also focused on taxation
matters affecting private corporations and their shareholders.

 Carl is a member of the Society of Trust and Estate
Practitioners (STEP) and the Canadian Tax Foundation. He
also actively participates in the Canadian Allinial Global tax
interest group, representing the tax interests of Allinial Global     
member firms across Canada.
