Late this week, the Alberta government announced a program to deliver one time payments of $1,200 to front-line workers, including those in health care, social services, education, and the transportation sector. Here are some important points about the Critical Worker Benefit.

Important to note: Businesses in the private sector are responsible for applying for these benefits on behalf of their employees.

The application window is short:  The portal to apply opens next Wednesday Feb 17, 2021 but closes March 19, 2021 – so gather ye payroll records while ye may.

Other restrictions include: Employees must have worked at least 300 hours between Oct 12, 2020 and Jan 31, 2021 and earned $25 per hour or less. These employees must also have been located and working in Alberta.
