Are you aware that changes to the Alberta Carbon Offset System will impact how you can generate credits under the Conservation Cropping Protocol?

Producers used to have some flexibility as to when they applied for their tillage credits; however, under this new system you are now required to forward plan.

This means you will want to register with an aggregator as soon as possible to identify fields you are considering for the 2018 growing season.

Actual emissions will still be reconciled at the end of the crop year but aggregators are required to identify a list of all producers and land locations that are planning to generate carbon credits in 2018 to the provincial government by April 30, 2018.

To qualify producers need:
• Annually seeded crops, like wheat, barley canola (no hayland or pasture land)
• Direct seeding (no cultivation)
• Crop land in Alberta
