The Small and Medium Enterprise Relaunch Grant (SMERG) that expired in March has been revived. Alberta’s government is relaunching its previous support grant to help small and medium businesses through the third COVID-19 wave.

What it is: Alberta small and mid-sized businesses that have seen revenues decline by at least 30 per cent are eligible to receive up to $10,000 through a new round of the relaunch grant.

The latest SMERG will replace the previously-announced Enhanced COVID-19 Business Benefit, which was planned for rollout in April.

Who is eligible: Businesses, cooperatives and non-profit organizations that were ordered to close or curtail operations as a result of public health orders issued by Alberta’s Chief Medical Officer of Health may be eligible. Businesses will be able to reapply for SMERG even if they previously received the maximum $20,000 available under the grant.
